Golden Gate Park is the city’s lungs and is more than just a giant patch of grass destined for picnics and frisbees. Where else can you see great art, ride a carousel, row a boat, observe American bison, stand in a Chinese pavilion, smell exotic flowers, all in one day?

It's one of California's most beautiful urban parks and provides a nice respite from the crowded city. Golden Gate Park is the home to two of the city's premiere museums, the De Young art museum and the California Academy of Sciences, the Japanese Tea Garden, an outdoor botanical garden, the Conservatory of Flowers, lots of open space and it even has a resident buffalo herd. So many things are to be seen and in the same time you can have a lot of fun.  Amateurs bring their remote-controlled boats to Spreckels Lake on the weekends, and you can have a lot of fun watching them.  

A very interesting place I would visit is the California Academy of Sciences, which has a planetarium, African Hall (with penguins), swamp exhibit with a white alligator, T-Rex and blue whale skeletons and an aquarium. The museum is considered one of the most eco-friendly and green museums in the world with a focus on natural history exhibits. The museum also contains both the Morrison Planetarium, largest completely digital planetarium dome in the world, and the Steinhart Aquarium. It's amazing, you can learn about extinct animals and the Big Bang Theory, see an albino alligator, learn about what causes earthquakes and watch staff feed the African penguins.

Art isn’t just meant for museums, so I will go for some of the wonderful outdoor art scattered throughout the park. You can sign up for a class at Sharon Art Studio, which offers an array of art classes for adults and children.
